The Journey from Coffee Bean to Europe – The Story of a Cup of the Himalayas

The journey of Himalaya & Sons coffee does not begin in a factory, but on the steep mountainsides of the Himalayas, where Sherpa families have preserved the tradition of high-altitude arabica cultivation for generations. And before a single bean reaches Europe, it travels a long – and often incredibly challenging path.

1. The Birth of the Coffee: Hand-Picked Above the Clouds

High-altitude arabica ripens slowly, and only the fully mature, deep-red cherries are harvested. Every single coffee cherry is picked by hand, as the slopes are so steep that machinery simply cannot be used.

2. The Art of Selection

The Sherpas carefully sort the beans. Only intact, flawless, perfectly ripe beans are allowed to move forward – this is where premium quality truly begins.

3. Processing and Drying

The coffee is prepared using either the natural or the washed method. Himalaya & Sons arabica is dried slowly and in small batches to preserve every nuance of its aroma.

4. Fresh Roasting in Nepal – One of the Highest Roasteries in the World

The coffee is roasted in small batches by the Sherpa family at one of Nepal’s highest-elevation roasteries. This is where the signature medium roast is created – the foundation of the Himalaya & Sons flavor profile.

5. The Coffee’s First Great Journey: Descending from the Mountains

Few people realize that getting the coffee from remote mountain villages to Kathmandu, the capital, is a serious logistical challenge in itself. In many areas there are no roads, so the beans travel:

  • on foot,
  • on pack yaks,
  • or by helicopter,

until they reach the nearest settlement or a point accessible by truck. This process can take days, sometimes even weeks – the Himalayas do not give up their treasures easily.

6. Export to Europe – Exclusively to Us

After careful selection and inspection, each shipment arrives directly from Nepal at the Himalaya & Sons headquarters in Budapest.

7. Packaging and Preparation for Customers

In Europe, the coffee receives elegant, matte-black, airtight packaging featuring the premium identity of Himalaya & Sons. Every label is applied by hand to ensure a flawless final result.

8. The Coffee’s Journey to Your Home

Once you place your order, the coffee is only one step away from reaching you. Behind every package stands the spirit of the Himalayas, the work of Sherpa families, and my own personal story.

Himalaya & Sons coffee is not a mass-produced product. Every bean carries the strength of the mountains, the respect for Sherpa culture, and the long, demanding yet beautiful journey that leads from the Himalayas all the way to Europe.
